Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers are the heartbeat of Renegade Readers—bringing diverse skills, perspectives, and energies that make our programming possible. We welcome volunteers of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds who share our passion for literacy, community connection, and creating unconventional spaces where everyone belongs.

Current Volunteer Roles

Story Guides

  • Description: Lead or assist with our storytime programs

  • Skills Needed: Enthusiasm for reading aloud, comfort with children, creativity

  • Time Commitment: 2-3 hours weekly or bi-weekly, including prep time

  • Training Provided: Storytelling techniques, group management, program planning

Nature & Wellness Facilitators

  • Description: Help lead hiking groups, walking meditation, or nature exploration activities

  • Skills Needed: Outdoor experience, basic knowledge of local ecology, calm presence

  • Time Commitment: 2-4 hours weekly or monthly, depending on program

  • Training Provided: Basic first aid, mindfulness techniques, safety protocols

Creative Expression Assistants

  • Description: Support our arts-based programs by helping set up materials, guiding participants, and assisting with creative projects

  • Skills Needed: Artistic interests (no professional experience required), patience, supportive attitude

  • Time Commitment: 2-3 hours weekly or monthly

  • Training Provided: Material handling, inclusive creative facilitation

Neighbor's Nest Cabinet Stewards

  • Description: Help maintain, organize, and stock our community cabinet

  • Skills Needed: Organizational abilities, reliability, compassion

  • Time Commitment: Flexible, 1-2 hours weekly or as needed

  • Training Provided: Inventory management, community resource navigation

Administrative Supporters

  • Description: Assist with behind-the-scenes needs like grant research, social media, event planning

  • Skills Needed: Computer literacy, writing skills, attention to detail

  • Time Commitment: Flexible, can be remote for many tasks

  • Training Provided: Platform-specific training, nonprofit administration basics
